Really?!? Bacon...

I have to wonder..

what a grown man not to be named (My dad) was thnking when he gave my sick son bacon while at his house. Now, I understand he didn't have me with him when I was sick as a child but, just plain common sense tells you, bacon is not a good choice when you have puked in the last 24 hours. I highly doubt that he would eat bacon in the same situation.

Thus my mantra that the first response to ANY request a child gives should be NO! Giving kids what they want is not always a good idea even if you feel sorry for them. Just ask the wall, the carpet and the dresser that had a side of bacon with chicken noodle soup on them. Notice I didn't say the garbage can next to the bed???

I'm not sure if I am more annoyed and the giving of bacon or that it is going to take me a bit to think bacon is a good thing to eat again. I am now regretting my lunch choice as well. After playing in the bacony cesspool on the floor, I am sure some of those germs have found their way into my system. I don't want to see my mexican chicken again. Please.

Love your state... even Wisconsin, in winter

This was sent to me by my friend Jill who lives in California. Her son wrote it for a creative writing assignment. I'm posting it as we brace for a foot or more of snow tonight. Maybe we all need to look at it from the eyes of a child... he will be jealous of the fun to be had!!! Anyone want to send them the snow??? She did send me a picture of some snow they have gotten on the mountains. I don't know that I feel too sorry for them though!

Wisconsin Poem
It' s Winter in Wisconsin
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At twenty-five below
Oh, how I love Wisconsin
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut
Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave Wisconsin
'Cause I'm frozen to the ground!!!

Clean Fun

Jesus and Satan were having an on-going argument about who was better on the computer. They had been going at it for days, and frankly God was tired of hearing all the bickering.

Finally fed up, God said, 'THAT'S IT! I have had enough. I am going to set up a test that will run for two hours, and from those results, I will judge who does the better job.' So Satan and Jesus sat down at the keyboards and typed away.

They moused.

They faxed.

They e-mailed.

They e-mailed with attachments.

They downloaded.

They did spreadsheets!

They wrote reports.

They created labels and cards.

They created charts and graphs.

They did some genealogy reports They did every job known to man.

Jesus worked with heavenly efficiency and Satan was faster than Hades.

Then, ten minutes before their time was up, lightning suddenly flashed across the sky, thunder rolled, rain poured, and, of course, the power went off.

Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed every curse word known in the underworld.

Jesus just sighed.

Finally the electricity came back on, and each of them restarted their computers. Satan started searching frantically, screaming 'It's gone! It's all GONE! 'I lost everything when the power went out!' Meanwhile, Jesus quietly started printing out all of his files from the past two hours of work.

Satan observed this and became irate.

'Wait!' he screamed. 'That's not fair! He cheated! How come He has all His work and I don't have any?' God just shrugged and said,
'JESUS SAVES'

Snow is Fun?

Just a little glimpse of why I am not really a huge fan of snow. Yes, it is pretty and it covers all the ugly dead stuff underneath. I admit that. I love when the trees have an icy layer on them. What I do not love is the complete chaos that devours my house when it snows.

Take Monday for example, the kids first day back after nearly a week off for Thanksgiving. I was ready for them to go! At 6:00 AM, I get a phone call from the principle of the school saying school was delayed 2 hours, OK, at least it wasn't cancelled. That didn't stop the kids from getting up at the crack of dawn, hmmmm could it have been the phone ringing at 6:00AM? Or maybe it was the driveway being plowed. Or maybe they just wanted to go outside. Which they did. In pajamas.

We made it through breakfast with minimal tears and then we had to wait for 2 hours for that beautiful yellow bus. Of course the kids weren't happy that I made them stay in instead of getting all wet before school. Then came the question repeated at least 100 times in those 2 hours. Can we snowmobile? Ummm, NO!
A) That is Dads thing
B) You smell like fuel 2 seconds after it starts
C) I am not going out and freezing this early in the day -I have a whole alphabet of reasons not to go outside.

Finally, it is 9:45 AM and the bus will be there in 15 minutes. You would think they had all their gloves and gear ready to do. Not so much. Where is my ____?_______.... So after searching the depths of the 2x2 foot closet, they are all ready to go. Just 5 more minutes and the bus should be there. Only 5 minutes to behave and stay dry. Can you see where this is going?

Barely to the end of the driveway and Angelina has been hit with 2 snowballs that have rocks in them because the boys grabbed snow that was freshly plowed. So, I yelled chores that were going to be assigned for that from the front door and prayed the bus would come. Then I proceeded to lock the door so they couldn't get back in! I watched out the window as they got wetter, their backpacks got wet sitting in the driveway and someone got a face wash...

Finally, 5 minutes later than it should have been, the bus. The glorious bus. Now I had to make up 2 hours of time lost in my Monday routine. Snow is great...

Chicken, Not Turkey.

I know it's Thanksgiving but, I am going to write about chicken! A friend sent this and it made me smile! Enjoy.

Why Did The Chicken Cross The Road?

BARACK OBAMA: The chicken crossed the road because it was time for change! The chicken wanted change!
JOHN MC CAIN: My friends, that chicken crossed the road because he recognized the need to engage in cooperation and dialogue with all the chickens on the other side of the road.
HILLARY CLINTON: When I was First Lady, I personally helped that little chicken to cross the road. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to ensure right from Day One that every chicken in this country gets the chance it deserves to cross the road. But then, this really isn't about me.
SARAH PALIN: As a Mayor and Governor of Alaska I have fought against and stopped the good old boy chickens attempts to cross the road against God's will . It appears I have not fully succeeded. Where's my gun?
DICK CHENEY: Where's my gun?
GEORGE W. BUSH: We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road.We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not.The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here.
COLIN POWELL: Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road with what is certainly weapons of mass destruction, perhaps nuclear. We must bomb the chicken before it attacks us and destroys our American way of life!
BILL CLINTON: I did not cross the road with that chicken. What is your definition of chicken?
AL GORE: I invented the chicken.
JOHN KERRY: Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken's intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against it.
AL SHARPTON: Why are all the chickens white? We need some black chickens.
DR. PHIL: The problem we have here is that this chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the problem on this side of the road before it goes after the problem on the other side of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he's acting by not taking on his current problems before adding new problems. OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life,I'm going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.
ANDERSON COOPER, CNN: We have reason to believe a chicken crossed the road, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road to verify the crossing.
BILL O'REILLY, FOX NEWS: Another left-wing chicken has crossed the road, probably looking for another government relocation handout. Get over it buddy, as far as I'm concerned, you're on your own.
NANCY GRACE: That chicken crossed the road because he's guilty! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks.
PAT BUCHANAN: To steal the job of a decent, hardworking American.
MARTHA STEWART: No one called me to warn me which way that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer's Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider information.
DR SEUSS: Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I've not been told.
ERNEST HEMINGWAY: To die in the rain, alone.
GRANDPA: In my day we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough for me.
BARBARA WALTERS: Isn't that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heart warming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its lifelong dream of crossing the road.
ARISTOTLE: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.
JOHN LENNON: Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together, in peace.
BILL GATES: I have just released eChicken2009, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your checkbook. Internet Explorer is an integral part of eChicken2009. This new platform is much more stable and will never need to recross.
ALBERT EINSTEIN: Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?
COLONEL SANDERS: Did I miss one?

Ramen War

Just heard in my kitchen... "Conversation" Between Gabrielle and Jonathan.

"G -in tears" I didn't get to do anything to make the Ramen Noodles... You got to do like 10 steps. I only got to scrunch them. I want to scrunch them again and you already did it AND put them in the microwave. You even stirred them. I didn't get to do anything.

"J -with rolling eyes" Yes you did. You got to do the water and the packet and put them in the microwave. I didn't get to do anything.

Really, are there that many steps to make Ramen Noodles? I should have just made them myself. There wouldn't have been scrunched up noodles and flavor packet all over the kitchen. Why scrunch them? Isn't part of the fun of Ramen Noodles to eat a giant long noodle?

It's the little things that start the wars I guess. When do they go back to school?

Our New Alarm Clock

We have a new way to be woken up in our house. It is a slug alarm... yes I said slug as in the slimy, squishy worm like creature. We have an alarm by our sump pumps that detect water so that we know if there is a problem. Well, lately the problem has been that slugs keep crawling on the alarm, complete the circuit and the alarm goes off. One morning at 5 am, 11 pm. Apparently slugs come out when people are sleeping. On the plus side, the time it went off at 5am, Louie actually didn't set his alarm and he needed to be up. So, we are faced with the decision of taking out the alarm and risking a basement flood or leaving it and facing getting woke up at bizarre times of the day. Why would a slug like this thing so much? I just don't get it!

Not qualified for Mother of the year- again...

So, this is how lunch went recently... Madaleine was a bag lady. Let me explain. She had a baggie of cereal that she was eating while we were on the road. When we got home, she wasn't finished so she kept her bag. I became busy with something- not cleaning my bead room (see previous post!) and lunch was late. So, she brought me her baggie and in her little voice said "more". So instead of stopping what I was doing, I got out some string cheese and put it in her baggie. When she was done, "more". Then I stuck a banana in there. "More"... hmmm, I think she likes this game. I had to cut her off as we had visited most of the food groups by then. She wasn't so happy when the baggie buffet closed!!! She is so my child. Poor thing!
Oh and all my kids have been in that outfit and I still think it is cute. Usually I am over things like that quickly but I guess I just like the tigger suit!!!

Cell Phones can't swim

After a busy and profitable craft fair, we found out that cell phones do not appreciate being washed in a jean jacket pocket. Somehow my jacket ended up in the wash and it was in there. So, in my mind that is a cost of business that day. Add that to all the $ the kids spent at the game and kitchen area and I have to seriously wonder if all the work was worth it! It of course was but, I am mad that my phone is junk. It actually turns on but "thinks" there is a charger on it. So, I'm afraid something isn't right! SO, if you need to reach me, cell is out for awhile. I have no idea when I'll get to replace it! Not that many call me on it but school questions do come up on a regular basis. Ok, off to get Madaleine off the table and extract whatever that is in her mouth... must be Monday!

Silly Boys

It has been brought to my attention that one of my kids is represented here more than others.. so in an effort to correct that I'll be getting the others on more! I just have more opportunities to take Madaleine's pictures since were together all day!

This is Jonathan with his friends Darren and John. They were posing for me while eating popcorn. Can you imagine the faces I would have gotten had I given them sugar???

Hairy Baby

We don't call her that for no good reason... If you think you have bad hair days, try living under her mop of hair. It wouldn't be so bad but at 18 months, she is not the neatest eater so there is always some meal stuck in there- among other things! There are times where she will hold up her mane so she can see! We usually have a "pretty" in there but she likes to rip them out! Poor little baby sheep dog! I just can't bring myself to cut it off either so we will have to live with it!

Pretty Flowers

My aunt Helen gave me these flowers for my birthday. They are too pretty to just be around for a week! There was a balloon but the kids destroyed it in 5 minutes! Thanks Helen!

Food for thought

This is the fairy tale that should have been read to us when we were little:

Once upon a time
~~~~~~~~
in a land far away,
~~~~~~~~
a beautiful, independent, self-assured princess
~~~~~~~~
happened upon a frog as she sat contemplating ecological issues on the shores of an unpolluted pond in a verdant meadow near her castle.
~~~~~~~~
The frog hopped into the princess' lap and said: ' Elegant Lady, I was once a handsome prince, until an evil witch cast a spell upon me.
~~~~~~~~
One kiss from you, however,and I will turn back into the dapper, young prince that I am
~~~~~~~~
and then, my sweet, we can marry
~~~~~~~~
and set up housekeeping in your castle
~~~~~~~~
with my mother,
~~~~~~~~
where you can prepare my meals,
~~~~~~~~
clean my clothes, bear my children,
~~~~~~~~
and forever feel grateful and happy doing so.
~~~~~~~~
That night,
~~~~~~~~
as the princess dined sumptuously
~~~~~~~~
on lightly sauteed frog legs
~~~~~~~~
seasoned in a white wine
~~~~~~~
and onion cream sauce,
~~~~~~~~
she chuckled and thought to herself:
~~~~~~~~
I don't think so.

Left Behind

Madaleine is missing her brothers and sisters while they are at school! At least she has cute outfits! I am loving the little hats that come with them! I don't think she is so enthused about them. They get ripped off as soon as she can get her hands on them!

For Wendy

I made this simple charm bracelet for my friend Wendy. She is a nurse and volunteers for the local rescue squad. I had originally given her the medical charm set to make her own creation but, took them back to do it for her! She is at home recovering from surgery and has her kids waiting on her "hand and foot" for the next couple of weeks... I have another project waiting to be made for her with all her L'bri charms she earned but I may put that on the back burner because my box of goodies was delivered today so I can get started on a bracelet I have been dying to make! Sorry Wendy!

I LOVE School

My favorite time of year has come! School time! These are some pictures of the kids going on their way! Many of my friends home school. I feel blessed that we have such a wonderful school to send our kids to. If that wasn't the case I would probably be doing it too. Now, time to catch up on all the neglected projects, scrapbooks and stamps. Oh yeah, I suppose I should clean something as well!

Wash Machine Wars

I would have had time to post pics of all my new creations had I not been at war with my washing machine...

It all started at 10pm Sunday night. I wanted to put the "Up North" laundry in. Yes, I started that late. I didn't see them but I am positive that there were ticks, outside scuz or a bug had looked at the clothes so they needed to be washed and right then and there. Can you tell I am NOT an avid outdoor person? I was already having washer issues but thought I had just overloaded it. I actually stood there in my laundry room at 10:50 when it was ready to spin and rinse to see that it was going. Twenty minutes later when I was starting to fall asleep there it was... That beep that I thought was cute- kind of like a chord- when we first got our machine. Not so much now since it went off at least 25 times in the last 24 hours. After about the 10th time of me moving things around in the load hoping it would finish and spin, I began to refer to the washer as though it was alive using not so affectionate names for it... use your imagination. So I shut it off for the night.

I was dreaming about all the creatures now free to roam my house because I couldn't wash them out. Not since the crazy garage door opener have I been driven that far. Whole different story. So, anyhow, I finally was mad enough to empty the whole thing out and ask for help when I saw it wasn't draining right. Long story short, I know too late, there was a dime stuck in the drain tube that is only reachable by tipping the machine over (yes with all the water going everywhere). Design flaw or some repair person conspiracy. Ha, my Dad who lives 2 minutes away knew what to do...

I do at least 10 loads a week in a good week so, I know things need to be cleaned out but, that was not so accessible... I reloaded, too much, beeps again... took out some of the stuff, THREW it on the floor and finally, I got to the end of the cycle. There were so many better things I was pretending I would have done without this happening. Wish me luck, now I need to do the regular everyday laundry. I hope there is no change in the pockets!!!

What is your skin type?

I have had quite a few questions about this when people are trying to pick which sample pack to try, so here is a handy tool. You can also go to http://www.jennofer.lbri.com/ for more information. Click on products.

Here’s How to Determine Your Skin Type
Each of us has a particular skin type. Maybe your skin is dry. Perhaps it is oily, or a combination of the two. There are five basic skin types, each determined by heredity and your environment. Factors such as sunlight, wind, air pollution, diet, and stress make a huge impact on the look and feel of your skin. Before selecting the L’Bri Pure n’ Natural products that are best for you, determine your skin type. Which of the following best describe your skin:

Normal Skin Normal Skin is the goal of every skin care program. Normal Skin is like that of a child, not too oily or dry with few, if any, blemishes. Normal Skin appears moist, plump, and dewy. The pores are small to medium in size. The skin is of medium thickness and even in tone. Normal Skin is soft, smooth, and firm with good elasticity. Key Description: Balanced.

For Normal Skin, order the L’Bri Gentle Skin Care Trio.

Oily Skin Oily Skin exhibits a shiny appearance and is usually thicker, firmer, and less sensitive to the touch than the other types. The pores, visibly more noticeable, are medium to large in size. Individuals with Oily Skin tend to experience recurring clogged pores, blackheads, whiteheads, and blemishes. Key Description: Overactive.

For Oily Skin with no break-outs, order the L’Bri Deep Pore Skin Care Trio.

For Oily Skin with break-outs, order the L’Bri Deep Pore Cleanser, Deep Pore Freshener, and use L’Bri Aloe Jelly as your moisturizer.

For Oily Skin that is excessively oily with blemishes or acne, order the L’Bri Deep Pore Cleanser, Deep Pore Freshener, and use L’Bri Aloe Jelly as your moisturizer. We also suggest using L’Bri’s KlearAway lotion, which is specially formulated with blemish fighting ingredients to prevent new blemishes from occurring while speeding the healing of existing blemishes.

Dry Skin Dry Skin feels tight and may exhibit visible flaking. Often delicate and easily irritated, Dry Skin may be sensitive to cold weather. Dry Skin has the appearance of a matte finish, lacking sheen. It may be rough to the touch. The appearance of Dry Skin may be due to a superficial dry condition caused by exposure to sun, sea, air, wind, or pollutants. A superficial dry condition can be aggravated by using soap as a cleanser or by failing to apply a protective moisturizer. Certain skin diseases such as eczema, mild psoriasis, or atopic dermatitis can be mistaken for Dry Skin. Key Description: Underactive.

For Dry Skin, order the L’Bri Gentle Skin Care Trio.

For extremely Dry Skin, order the L’Bri Gentle Cleanser, Gentle Freshener, and Intense Moisture Cream.

Combination Skin Those with Combination Skin exhibit two or more skin type characteristics on various parts of the face. For example, the forehead, nose, and chin (known as the T-Zone) may be oily while the cheeks and around the eyes are Normal to Dry. Approximately 95 percent of individuals with Combination Skin fit this description. Combination Skin may involve an oily forehead, dry cheeks, but normal everywhere else, or skin that is normal in the T-Zone and dry everywhere else. Key Description: Asymmetric.

For Combination Skin, order the L’Bri Combination Skin Trio, which consists of the Deep Pore Cleanser, Gentle Freshener, and Gentle Moisturizer.

Sensitive Skin Sensitive Skin tends to overreact to environmental influences such as sun, wind, temperature extremes, and some cosmetics. Easily irritated, this skin type exhibits redness or a rash, itching, stinging, or a burning sensation. Sensitive Skin may develop distended or broken capillaries and allergic reactions. Usually sunburns easily.
Key Description: Delicate.

A friend sent me this this morning and it made me laugh! Enjoy...

The sharing of marriage...
>
> The old man placed order for one
> hamburger, French fries and a drink.
>
> He unwrapped the plain hamburger
> and carefully cut it in half, placing one half in front of
> his wife.
>
> He then carefully counted out the French fries,
> dividing them into two piles and neatly placed one pile in
> front of his wife.
>
> He took a sip of the drink, his wife took a sip and then set
> the cup down between them . As he began to eat his few bites of hamburger, the
> people around them were looking over and whispering.
>
> Obviously they were thinking, 'That poor old couple
> - all they can afford is one meal for the two of them.'
>
> As the man began to eat his fries a young man came
> to the table and politely offered to buy another meal for
> the old couple. The old man said, they were just fine - they were used to
> sharing everything.
>
> People closer to the table noticed the little old lady hadn't
> eaten a bite. She sat there watching her husband eat and occasionally taking
> turns sipping the drink.
>
> Again, the young man came over and begged them to let him buy
> another meal for them. This time the old woman said 'No, thank you, we are
> used to sharing everything.'
>
> Finally, as the old man finished and was wiping his
> face neatly with the napkin, the young man again came over
> to the little old lady who had yet to eat a single bite of food and asked
> 'What is it you are waiting for?'

> She answered...

Who we are...

Here is the whole family. The baby has notably changed so that picture is more up to date. I don't get the 7 of us together in pictures as often as I should. I'll have to add that to the things I don't have time to do list!
From top left -Me, Jonathan-9, Madaleine -16 months (now), Daniel-11, Louie, Bottom left, Gabrielle 8, Angelina 6.

Brain power

Just a llittle thinking to get the brain going for the week! I know my brain got a bit mushy this summer!

A woman had two sons who were born on the same hour of the same day of the same year. But they were not twins. How could this be so?
